SMART Communications launched its 1st ever Leadership Summit on November 27, 2012 at the Meralco Multipurpose Hall, Pasig City. ICCT Colleges together with other Colleges around the Metro were invited to be part of this exciting event. Student leaders from different colleges, institutions and universities were sent and I, Michael Dalnay of ICCT Computer Explorer Society, together with Andrew Medoza of ICCT Engineering Society and Christine Faulve of ICCT BA Society were chosen to represent ICCT Colleges. There, we were able to meet and work with other participants. It was nice to be with those who have the same perspective as mine concerning the evolution of education through Information Technology.
Famous personalities whose business were able to reach the top market, jump-started the said event. They have been using technology’s current advancements as their tool to make this possible. One of the speakers is the CEO of the online news site: Rappler.com; she provided tips and ideas on how to use these existing technologies as a useful tool and profit from it.
There were approximately more than 300 participants from different schools invited, and we were grouped to teams. We were tasked to construct and present of views on how education evolve through the use of modern technology. Well of course that was a team competition, the winning team received 12 units of Nokia Lumia 900 (Windows Phone) courtesy of SMART Communications. The said exercise highlighted our experience. It was so nice to be able to meet other student leaders from other schools and share our visions towards IT Education with them. Although the outcome did not went well for us, still, we are grateful for this opportunity. The vibe fired-up when Christine Faulve, one of ICCT Colleges’ delegates, for winning a brand new Blackberry Curve from Smart.
Smart ended the event by giving away more phone units. Certificates and freebies were also given upon the conclusion of the event. That eight-hour event was an amazing experience for me, and for us, students of ICCT Colleges.(Michael Dalnay)
